Innovation,
Built-in.

  • By flying where no one can through innovation adapted to northern realities
  • Banquise
By operating in some of the most challenging flight environments
  • By being a vital link to Nunavik’s 14 coastal communities

Here, doing things differently is just called getting things done.

a safe place for challenges

As true northerners do, we have become uniquely skilled at meeting the conditions of the Arctic.
This shows in our culture as much as in our equipment, which we modify to meet the needs of the communities we serve and maintain operational efficiency in challenging terrains.

Equipping the Dash-8 with large freight doors for better cargo operations

Teaming up with engineering firm Rockwell Collins, Air Inuit spent three years planning a retrofit of its Dash-8 planes with unique, large freight doors to transport larger cargo. These modifications made crucial large items like ATVs and snowmobiles more accessible to Northerners and allowed whole pallets of fragile items like fruits and vegetables to be easily loaded without extra handling.

This streamlined operations, protected staff from injury, maintained the integrity of the aircraft and expanded possibilities for northern commerce and transport.

Modernizing our fleet with new Boeing 737-800s and the first combi versions

These planes, including two specially modified 737-800SF aircrafts for combined passenger and freight transportation, will enhance reliability, fuel efficiency and noise reduction when delivering essential goods and services to the Arctic.

They’ll also introduce pilots and engineers to new technologies, making them uniquely skilled experts capable of bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and original mechanics.

Sacrificing seats for cargo in the Dash-8

Although it might seem counterintuitive for an airline, Air Inuit stayed true to the needs of the communities it serves by sacrificing a few passenger seats to make space for essential cargo such as mail, milk, vaccines and medicine.

This modification was made on the Dash-8, which is uniquely adapted to the conditions of the Great North, along with optimizations that allow the planes to better maneuver Nunavik’s short gravel runways.
