Innovation, Built-in.

  • Innovation grounded in operational reality
  • Every innovation strengthens our communities.
  • We don’t just adapt to the North, we innovate for it.

Here, doing things differently is just called getting things done.

a safe place for challenges

As northerners do, we have become uniquely skilled at meeting the conditions of the Arctic.
This shows in our culture as much as in our equipment, which we modify to meet the needs of the communities we serve and maintain operational efficiency in challenging terrains.

Equipping a Dash-8 with a large freight door for better cargo operations

Teaming up with engineering firm Rockwell Collins, Air Inuit spent three years planning a retrofit of a Dash-8 with a unique large freight door to transport larger cargo. This modification made crucial large items like ATVs and snowmobiles more accessible to Northerners and allows whole pallets of fragile items like fruits and vegetables to be easily loaded without extra handling.

This streamlined operation, protects staff from injury, maintains the integrity of the aircraft and expands possibilities for northern commerce and transport.

Sacrificing seats for cargo in the Dash-8

Although it might seem counterintuitive for an airline, Air Inuit stayed true to the needs of the communities it serves by sacrificing a few passenger seats to make space for essential cargo such as mail, food, vaccines and medicine.

This modification was made on the Dash-8, which is uniquely adapted to the northern conditions, along with optimizations that allow the planes to better maneuver Nunavik’s short gravel runways.
